Whitby History
Whitby is a town bursting with history going as far back as the founding of Whitby Abbey in 657AD. It boasts over 200 listed buildings, many of them close to the harbour that the town originally grew around.

The seaward side of the swing bridge is the perfect place to watch a host of nautical activities, maybe the lifeboat roaring out to sea or the rival rowing clubs practising. You can wander out on the piers, enjoy and walk along the beach or take a sea trip.
Whitby is truly a wonderful, special place to visit at any time of the year. To the right is just a taste of some of the main events taking place (please note that exact dates should be checked on relevant websites).
